it could work, but only temporary i would of thought, the pressure of the water constantly could dis-lodge it.

you could try it as a temporary solution keeping a close eye on it until your able to get a new tank, although i wouldnt leave it like that too long personally.

Get a piece that can be siliconed on the inside of the cracked pane. If it's a snug fit it will work. Just silicone it on all 3 touching edges. That way you'll just have on pane that is double glazed. The pressure won't matter as long as no water can get to the broken pane. Make sure that the new piece is attached to the existing bracing as well and job done.

That's happened to me as well mate. A few years ago now. Got up in the morning went into the living room and 100 gallons of water all over the floor and on the persian rug! It even manged to get all over the speakers for the tele destroying them but that wasnt the worst every single fish in the tank was dead!
Iv only now got back into keeping a big tank of fish again just stuck to my fighters after that.

It happened to me when I was a kid, I was heart broken. It was the seal that went on my first 3 footer but I never have had it happen since(touch wood). How did the glass crack? Did it knocked or something?
