Default oscar food

Can baby oscars (after birth) just eat inanimated food like flakes only?

best bet is to feed them newly hatched brine shrimp. Nice and small and because it's live food it will exercise the babies which aids correct growth and development.


I feed all my baby cichlids this way for 1 week, then start introducing frozen and live daphnia. Then a few weeks later introduce larger brineshrimp, and increase the size until they can start hitting small pellets. You want them on as much protein as possible when they are very small because they will grow very quickly. The better you feed them now the better they will be when older. Much better looking in shape and colour.


You want to get them onto pellets as soon as possible. Much easier to regulate the amount and they are a complete diet so you can supplement with the more expensive frozen and live foods.

My dad keeps oscars and he has a dvd on breeding them you can buy it on ebay just type in oscar fish dvd

sorry to jump on this thread but ive got an oscar had him for bout 4 months hes about 4-5 inches long and i feed him on frozen blood worm when i first got him and now cockles and frozen blood worm. is this a good diet or would you suggest any other foods? he is a red map oscar but hes not very dark in colour all the time seems to be dark grey most of the time and is quite shy. any help please. cheers james

hi there peeps. ive got an oscar had him for bout 4 months hes about 4-5 inches long and i feed him on frozen blood worm when i first got him and now cockles and frozen blood worm. is this a good diet or would you suggest any other foods? he is a red map oscar but hes not very dark in colour all the time seems to be dark grey most of the time and is quite shy hisa red marking show amazingly all the time tho. any help please. cheers james
