My first aquatic book was "Aquarium Owner's Manual" by Gina Sandford. Very good to get you started, but it is a bit basic once you're into things.
You can also get some very good books on specific areas. Lee Finley's book on Catfish is very good if you want to get into that area. There are a lot of books to start you in specific areas, but the Owners Manual is probably best. Another book that I'd reccomend is the Fishlopeadia by Mary Baily and Peter Burgess. It doesn't cover different species, but fish keeping and fish behaviour as a whole. Hope this helps Harry
