Well it acctually depends at what the tank stays at all the time, they arent coldwater fish as such, they are tropical but they can live at lower tempretures. If your tank can stay at their ideal tempreture by house heating then yes you dont need a heater.

i don't think they do very well with out a heater because the temp can drop too low and kill them off. their colours would prob be duller than usual as well if temp too low. i wouldn't do it to them personally. why not go for paradise fish, white clouds or maybe zebra/leopard danios if the room is at a stable temp. they can go happily in a tank with no heater.

Ive had Platy succesfully breed without a heater and their colour is no different to when I brought them, my Tank stays between 22-24 Celcius which is within their tempreture range.

sorry i meant if the temp get too low, eg if the room temp fluctuates. that temp is alright, monitor the room temp to make sure.

If the temperature in your house is steady and within their range 22-24C then yes but they are not "coldwater" fish.

why not put heater in and set at a low temp say 23 then when you house gets to cold it will kick in and do the job. they are not to expensive and its a bit cheeper than loosing the fish if house stays higher it wont come on.

Dont forget that parasites like Whitespot are more likely at lower temps.
