Default Any one know the rules and regs of selling fish?

Ive got 4 female platy, ones just given birth to a bucket load of fry and the other 3 are pregnant.
I was wondering whats the rules on selling them when they are old enough to sell?

As you are simply a hobbyist, then there are no real regulations to selling fish, you can sell to private people, or you might even find that your local fish shop might be interested if there are enough of them and the quality is good

Yes I am just a hobbyist, there will be a fair few if they survive.
Roughly what age do they have to be at the time of sale?

They don't HAVE to be any age - you could sell a day old fry, but you are most likely to sell them once they have reached an age where their colours have come through and are of a reasonable size.

Generally, sell them when you think people will want to buy them. Would you want to buy fry, or a 1cm long fish or an adult? Completely your choice.

As far as I'm aware there are no regulations for the hobbyist.

It's all down to the amount of fish you sell. Most hobbyists don't make enough money to count it as an income.

I breed all my cichlids and very very rarely break even let alone make a profit. I do it mostly for my own enjoyment and to reduce the costs of running my fish room.

To be honest though, platys, guppies and mollys etc are so easy to breed you'll be lucky to find anyone who will pay for them and if you do you won't get much for them.

Where are you? I buy fish from the public on a regular basis. Must warn you though that livebarers like mollies platys and guppies do not sell for much.

Cheers

Paul
