in a 3ft? your joking me. as an adult (30cm + SL) they'll need at least 2.5m x 1m x 1m.

anyway, heres the Piranha article from my book-in-writing (apologies if spelling errors, only a draft):

Urban legend surrounds the Piranha, naming them as dangerous, killer fish, when they are actually rather docile. Even so, only juvenile fish are suitable to the home aquarium, unless a large tank in excess of 2.5m x 1m x 1m is available.

Piranha should only be kept in a species aquarium - other fish may be concidered food. Young fish can be active and agressive, but will settle down and become more sedate as they mature. Piranha naturally are shoaling fish, but for practical purposes, a shoal of three to five will suffice.

Piranha are not fussed about the set out of the aquarium, but rocks and a gravel substrate are easiest to clean. All rocks should be fastened down securely. If you wish to include plants, hardy species that won't mind a battering such as Java Fern and Amazon Swords are best.

Don't keep Piranha if you are faint hearted - feed live fish daily. Livebreeder fish such as Guppys and Platys are most commonly used - these are known as feeder fish. These fish are used as they breed readily and you can cultivate your own at home. A powerful filtration system is needed to cope with the copious amounts of waste that these fish produce.

Piranha are only suitable for experienced aquarists.

Hope this helps,

Harry

From experiance, go with sand as substrate, try to get an external filter, Piranha are dirty fish. The fish ive got are £40 each and also got an external filter for £30 (fluval 205).
The sanchezi is 4 inch and rhom is slightly bigger.
Where abouts are you.
