Default Just a suggestion....

Would it be too much to ask that when posts are removed that the moderator removing them takes a note of the names of the members that the removals affect and PM's them to say that the action has been taken and why ?

It would save an awful lot of confusion and "where are my posts" threads

It would also help to clarify under what circumstances posts will be removed ... If I start a thread for example, can I as the thread starter simply say I do not like certain posts in it or find them unhelpful, ask for them to be removed and they will be without anyone being told that I have asked for this ?

Most of the time we PM the thread starter to explain. We dont tend to PM all of the posters due to the time it takes. We also then tend to get alot of PM's back either telling us we are out of order, saying so and so should be banned for it, or generally some sort of input that doesn't help the situation, we could be doing it all night then.

People can always PM us if they are unsure why posts have been removed, most people dont tend to be too fussed about it though.

I will not reply to pathetic whining blah blah blah private messages. I suggest you call the Samaritans instead.

Its a good idea, but can see Jacks point too. If it was me dealing with the ensuing PMs I reckon my attitude would be "If you dont like or cant deal with the moderation.......**** off elsewhere!"

Also often, whole threads are removed for various reasons, sometimes with hundreds of posts, across potentially dozens, 20, 30+ people. Would we have to go through every single post in a deleted thread and PM every single person who's post has gone?

What used to be a 5 minute job would literally turn into a solid hour of PMing followed by an influx of returned PMs, followed by a while sorting out which of those returned PMs needed to be replied to and which could be deleted for space.

Would definitely have to petition T-bo for a bigger inbox and maybe a 36 hour day too

Yep, I can see Jack's point. The problem is though that the forum gets so many posts that you don't actually have any idea whether yous have actually been removed or not.

I know that I had at least one removed from answering the boidae muppet last night ... But I could not tell you what they said. It would just have been nice to have a PM saying "We have removed some posts from this thread to keep it on topic and some of yours have been removed or edited."

Well that one is easy Just remove it and post another locked thread saying it's been removed and why.

Common sense is allowed to prevail

I removed all those posts from that thread and would of thought it was pretty obvious why. Common sense some would call it since all the posts I removed had insults in or were quoting the insults to retaliate against them.

Most of the time its pretty clear why we remove posts as we only remove them because they are bickering, bitching etc we dont usually remove them if they are on topic and actually usefull.

I think your posts were removed as they were quoting insults that a certain someone was throwing about.
