Lightbulb Forum Layout

Ok, i'm gonna guess this has been mentioned before but i can't help but noticing how many topics appear in each section.

Why not split each section into subforums,i.e.

Snakes
  • Corns
  • Ball Pythons
  • Boas
  • Kings
  • Other
Lizards
  • Leo
  • Cresteds
  • Tegus/Monitors
  • Other
Shelled
  • Tortoises
  • Terrapins
Amphibians
  • Frogs
  • Salamanders
  • Other
I just think it would make the forum a lot easier to navigate and would be realtive simple to do...

simply because the 'others' will want their own sections.
The water dragon folk will be pissed off that they're classed as 'others' and not as important as a beardie or leo. Same with rat snakes, milk snakes, etc etc. The only way to keep everybody happy is to have seperate sections for every single different possible animal..

but then when you do that you'll piss 90% of the people off who like it as it is.

How many categories would it honestly need though, check out MFK, the system is effective and you don't have to trawl through large amounts of threads you have no particular interest in. For example i'm not interested in Corns or Leos and that's a good 30% of the threads i'd say

its not really what you'd 'need' but the pissy attitude of 'some' people who don't want to think what they're into is less important than the common ones.
It does work well on forums but it never works well when introduced to a popular forum.. people don't like change.

Yeh fair enough i see your point i just think this forum has got to such a size now that threads can quickly dissapear if no-one posts on them. It would actually make the "less important threads" stay on the front page for longer and have more specialist responses. But i agree that people don't like change. I still feel that something could be done to organise the site a little better naviagtion wise.
You could make it so all of the subcategories can still be viewed by clicking the original category this way people would still get the old viewing style or be able to narrow down the threads they are viewing...
