Hi,
Over the last couple of years i've being an active member on this forum I find myself spending the majority of my time in the snakes classifieds section, mainly window shopping but shopping none the less. I am only interested in colubrids right now and therefore find it a little frustrating having to sift through all the 'Boa, Retic GTP' posts etc (no offense to you big snake people out there). I am sure other users feel the same. Who wants to see endless corn snakes for sale posts when what they are after is a big old python?! My suggestion is that the snake classifieds area is sub-categorised into different snake species. The categories would'nt have to be as specific as Rat Snakes, Corns Snakes, hognose etc but could be more general such as Colubrids, Boas, Pythons, Elapids, Vipers, Other snakes. Not sure if its even possible to implement this sort of change? I have added a poll to this thread to get an idea if anyone else shares the same wishes as me. T-Bo, Moderators; Please remove this poll if it is not feasible to make such a massive change to the classifieds. Let us know what you think and apologies in advance if no one shares the same ideas. If this idea is implemented obviously there would be implications for the other classified areas e.g. lizards etc, I know little about other reptiles and phibs so will leave this poll at snakes only for now. Thanks Jim

Here's some trivia for you (wikipedia definition): A colubrid (from Latin coluber, snake) is a snake that is a member of the family Colubridae. It is a broad classification of snakes that includes about two thirds of all snake species on earth. Basically corn snakes, rat snakes etc. Thanks

I think they should put the wanted adds seperately or somehow make an automatic title start or logo that states sale, swap or wanted. As some people just put the species in and it isnt until you have wasted time reading it that you know if they even have one for sale or not.
Dont think they should be split by area as there are couriers available if you really want an animal and having to keep going in and out of sections would get annoying. |

Some good points guys, thanks for your opinions.
Another option could be to allow contributing members to have their own 'For Sale' area so they dont have to keep bumping their posts. This would could come under 'Other sub categorisation'.

I'd much rather see people ACTUALLY put their locations in the titles!
If there was some way to require this in order to post that would be super. I realise there are couriers but what if you are looking for an amel corn, or as someone in another thread mentioned a gecko, are you gonna pay a courier £50 to get a £20 snake or lizard? It would still be nice to know what is in your area. I am not suggesting splitting it - but maybe a REQUIRED* box with location in order to post would help. Yeah it's a pretty good idea for people who know specifically what they want but some people may just be browsing, surely if you do this for snakes then the lizards have to be sub-categorised, and the inverts, and the equipment. Seems a lot of work.

I think all sections should be sub categorised like the first option. Just into genera so its not too complicated. This would make it easier to find what your looking for and sell what your selling as your thread should not get swamped by others and need to be bumped 3 times a day.

Thats true with regards to the other areas but at the end of the day the classifieds section is here so that people can sell their animals efficiently, a further sub categorisation would help? This proposed change could always be tried on the snakes section, if successful be rolled out to other busy classified sections. Would only be worth doing on the higher traffic sections though.
