More than likely it would be to stop spamming. I'd imagine for some connections the loading of all of those would take quite a long time.

Plus the fact that when you start seeing all those its bloody annoying.

It's because of line breaks... if you see on the smileys that haven't come out as graphics there is a space in the middle ie. :not worthy: or : nortworthy: or :nortwor thy: the space is where the forums automatically broke the line up due to it's length. As there's a space in the middle, the forums no longer recognises it as code.

Hit return and use a new line, it will happen for any smiley after a certain amount of characters... the longer the code is the less you'll fit before it tries to break it up.
