Default mod's and admin...reward system for helpfull members.

just a thought

over on cc.com we have a system to show/and reward other members who are the most helpfull members, the way this is done is with karma points...

each member has a plus and a minus bellow their user name and if they post helpfull stuff then you get recognition in the way of a karma and if you give bad info or you are not a very nice person then you get a smite which knocks your karma back down..i really think this site is missing something like this.....i am on the bottom of this screenshot 'carl' notice how i cannot give my self karma or take it away, but if the person above me gives real good advice then i can click the little plus sign just underneath his name which gives him recognition of his good deed. but if they are naughty then you click the minus to smite them

just something for you all to think about.

I could see that easily being abused...
It's a nice idea, but some people would just manipulate it for the people they personally like/dislike...

We had a similar thing implemented once quite some time ago, unfortunately we had a lot of problems, and a lot of complaints regarding friends / cliques all offering positive reinforcement to posts of their friends even if it was just a "nice snake" post, and then people leaving negative reputation for people they just didn't like, had an argument with or just felt like it.

Moderators were constantly being asked to remove things and unfortunately it just seemed to create competition for approval amongst a certain type of person and a way to be vindictive as well for others.

It was eventually removed and I think unfortunately if reinstated in any way shape or form it would cause similar problems again.

its not only these forums which get these problems - when its a huge community, these probs tend to arise.

you get forum idiots where ever you go, thats a given. i supose a reptile forums could be worse for having a few idiots due to the broad range in age diffrences

on the car forum its slighly diffrent due to member genrally being over 17 years old, and more of a spesified group..eg you wouldnt get as many members on a vauxhall nova forum or a ford fiesta forum as you would on a general animal forum.

nearly everyone has a pet which means a pet forum would have move of said idiots
