exporting from the united stares....

i've been trying to research this but can't make too much sense of the process. if i as a regular joe, if i wanted to export some reptiles to the U.K., is there any step by step process that i could understand?... the export laws are cryptic it seems. i just need a step A, step B kinda info. it seems like we don't have too many fees and restrictions here but over there... i have a vet to do what they need to do already.

anyone with experience or suggestions would be nice.

i won't be in it for the money buit i would stand to make some bucks. i just thought that i could get the serious deals here and pass the savings on to you all. i live very close to the international airport here in cincinnati. on the net they don't seem to be concerned about reptiles being exported as much as livestock for a variety of reasons.

anyway, kick this around some and we'll see if it pans out. winter is about over so the big shipping season will be upon us. i could cherry pick some stuff and ship it to someone....... i have the room to acculilate things.

i mean a tree boa is like between $25- $100 a piece here.

anyway, i'm just tossing this out there. i don't want to make any mistakes.

over here you can pay a inport company to do the work for you between 300-500 pounds i believe! Its not as hard as people think and many do it!

so basicaly you want to get alot of people together to chip in and state what reps they want and they pay for their own etc and everyone chips into the shipping costs? because i was thinking of doing something similar but just deciding on what i need/want.

cincinatti airport is not a designated port of entry/exit for live animals,your nearest one is down in Kentucky,cant remember the name but its about 80 miles from you

its not hard, but as gaz points out, there are lots of hoops you have to jump through.

For lots of species that freely move here in EU with basic papers, you need to get export permits, for example royals.

Once they are on the way, they have to go to a designated airport here in the UK and need to be cleared by customs and AH. all this has fees that soon add up. Best bet is to arrange it via a shipping agent, but you are going to have to pay, and in many cases, it works out just as expensive as to buy here.

Of course, the range of animals may well make it worth while !

Here it is as I understand it, this may not be all the details, as I've obviously never shipped anything from the states myself... although as the family does have property and business there it's crossed my mind once or twice that I could go over for a month and hand pick a shipment for myself.

1. Find your port and Get your animals. This is the easy bit because you can fedex most states pretty cheaply and KingSnake is full of bargains. You can find the places you can export animals from here FWS Law Enforcement Designated Ports

2. Apply for CITES - I'm told a non cites shipment can be ready to send in about 7 days. A cites shipment can take 90 days. So you've got to house and feed the animals for those 90 days. Cites List here CITES Listed Species

3. Fish and Wildlife -
You have to get your export license for the shipment. Regional Permit Offices is where you can find out about the licenses you will need
You have to pay the Fish and Wildlife Fees for an inspection charge at the airport. Fees here - dependant on how many hours work they have to do - http://www.fws.gov/le/pdffiles/50cfr...0on%20fees.pdf

4. You must file Form Number 3-177 Forms available in .pdf format through the Office of Law Enforcement before your shipment can clear customs and leave the country.

You must also comply with the APHIS regulations which can be found here International Animal Export Regulations I believe this requires you to have a local veterinarian check the animals before export
I'm sure there are other rules / regs to follow too.

On the other side you must be sending to an airport that accepts imports of live animals (London, Manchester I believe), the person receiving the shipment must
a) apply and receive an import license before you send the goods
b) Pay 17.5% in GBP on arrival at the airport

Heathrow has the largest Animal reception Centre I believe... I'm within easy driving distance, and as long as all money is sorted in advance I may be able to help out at this end!
