Wink A thought on the growing numbers -

The last couple of months the forum has had alot more people browsing it and the classifeds has had over 100 people in somtimes.

Do you think this is possibly because of life in cold blood?

And just a thought on the program has it done more for reptiles?

Or has the program caused alot of trouble, like people buying chams etc?

Just a few thoughts

Working in a shop, I've not noticed any problems relating to the series. Mainly an increase in compassion towards something (like snakes for example) that a person really didn't like previously.

With the age of the internet, people unfortunately will fly straight out there and try to buy the cute wee animal.. most won't succeed, but some will. These programmes have that effect.. however, on the plus side, a lot of people who have always wanted to get into the hobby may have been spurred into finding out more, and joined our group for that reason.

It should be pointed out that LICB was mostly filmed away from the UK and didn't really say too much about herpers and the hobby itself here... what a spokesman if we could have him!

I've had a few questions regarding animals on the show (if I have to tell one more person I cannot get armadillo lizards.... ) but in general I think it has not been too bad, it has definitely increased awareness. I've noticed some of my regulars have talked about it and picked up bits of knowledge and thought about branching out to species they wouldn't have before. A lot of people have asked about chameleons but the majority of them go away with a caresheet and don't return.

I've noticed more people looking for dwarf cham's, typical for me that they will all go at Hamm before I find them. That means I will have to buy more burms and retics instead

I think anything that shows that reptiles are not scary or evil is a good thing so life in cold blood was good for that. They've also been showing Austen Steven's on channel 5 so hopefully more people will understand how amazing / interesting reptiles are.

Reptile are now the most popular pet in this country (apparantley it used to be the staffie dog). But still everytime i mention to people that i have lizards and snakes they freak out!

Maybe if we have more programmes or awareness for reptiles people wont think i'm a nutter for sharing my house with them lol?!
