Default What's Really Annoying!!

Something that is pg me off alot recently, alot of people are posting threads on how they have to sell there snakes cause of breeding and stuff like that, well why dont you just pick something your gonna like for the rest of it's life? instead of going "oh this is a very sad sale for me i really need to sell..." and so and so. And "Oh im breeding these snakes now so i haven't got the time for these, shouldn't you have thought about that before, obviously a few people on this forum seem to not have a snake long before they move onto their next "project", sorry if im moaning, but does anyone else feel like this?

I do agree with you there. I have my very first snake still with me as she is part of the family. It's a shame when people sell on animals frequently. I don't see a problem with someone downsizing or wishing to concentrate on fewer animals. I believe it is better to sell most of your animals to good homes and give those in your care the very best care you can rather than struggling and only giving a half-baked level of care to lots of animals. My friend recently sold one of his snakes as she was too feisty for him and he was scared of her. Upshot was she got more feisty and she was no longer being handled. She has now gone to a good home and he has purchased a more manageable snake.

I fully understand your concern, and i agree its a total , and all they are interested in is money and not the animals welfare, take heed that what goes around comes around and that people arnt stupid and generally after time stay clear of these people as the grapevine rumbles very loud!!!!

So can one not breed and sell reptiles without being interested in the welfare of the animals?

FFS where exactly would you get your animals if not for people breeding and selling them

Why can I/we/They not care for their animals simply because they are sold and bred?

With a significant amount of my own money invested I am going to want to earn some back yes, but I still care for and about my animals. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

IF breeders did not adopt this disgusting attitude there would be no progress, no new morphs for you all to drool over and post pictures of how "stunning" it is asnd argue over if it's worth the money (etc)..

I agree that people do treat reptiles as throwaway pets, but thats more muppets who impulse buy on places like this than breeders. As a rule breeders care for their animals, they would not breed otherwise. It's the idiots who go mad buying up dozens and dozen of hatchlings only to have to "sell up" months down the line. People who seem to have 20 snakes within a month of their first. These are the concern. Not the "evil" breeders and trader without whom there would not BE a hobby. We'd be back in the 60's and 70's With very limited knowledge and very limited WC only stock.

what kinda a thread is this? on this forum all it is is people bloody moaning!

You would have NO and i mean NO animals what so others if there wasn't breeders that sold their offspring!

With breeding people do need to sell snakes, if u wanna breed new bloodlines then you will need to sell on the old, if you keep every single snake u have ever had it would take over ur house, i mean ive still got all of mine but im sure when i can afford the bigger morphs and stuff i will have to sell some of the old stuff.

Think logically before coming here and sprouting ur mouth because im getting abit sick and tired on the forum. Think what you like, why come on here and moan. If your keeping animals then don't moan! because u got them because of breeders!

grrr

i think jb1432 was maybe referring to the people that say they have to downsize their collection for whatever reasons and the next post they make is a wanted ad. i have nothing against breeders, like you say there would be no reptile hobby without them but you have to admit that there are a lot of people who will happily sell their reptiles after a month or so just to say that they once owned them and then buy whichever is most 'fashionable'.

I have just sort of sold my last reptile................i had up until my last one going 5 lizards, 3 snakes and still have 2 T's that stay on at my friends

I sold my reps because i didnt have the time for them as im more into my fuzzie animals now and having 6 dogs roaming and the living room the only place big enough to keep my reptiles in not being safe for them from the dogs, them not getting handle in fear of one of the dogs eating them.................then i think i would say i made the right choice in selling them to people that did have the time for them and could keep them safely

Oh and by the way i just bought a APH so does that make me a bad person for selling my reps and getting a hog? hmmm and the 15 rescue mice that are coming to me too

Oh and i have a room that i keep them in thats safe from the dogs...........but wasnt big enough to house 10 vivariums and only has 2 plug sockets in so hmmmmmmm would have been a fire hazzard too hey

yes there are some people that just get reptiles and pass them on cos they are bored but like has been said earlier they dont care who owns them as long as they are treated good, fed and housed properly.........

I think a couple of people have got the wrong end of the stick. The OP wasn't having a go at breeders per se, just those who decide that "this week/month, I shall be mostly breeding X" (to be read in Jesse voice from "The Fast Show") Then they advertise their collection for sale because they have "now decided to concentrate on Y"
There are some breeders who stick with a species and others who flit from one to another depending upon what's in fashion/ makes most profit. I think it's the latter group that the post is aimed at
