Post Who do you believe? re webs sites

Have been looking through various web sites on the care of Chilean rose spiders. All say different things on how to care for spiders.
E.G. some say, no they dont like humidity, damp, or need heat mats ect.
Other webs sites say they like humidity, damp and heat mats.
Surely this is confusing and also mis-leading to any users who may want to keep a spider, or any other rep come to that. I have looked through quite a few web sites, and they all differ in what they say about each indiviual creature.
So what it 1 to do? these are not amercian sites, they are U.K. sites i looked at.

The list is endless on the requirements of reptiles, from housing, heating lighting and feeding.
This to me gives out mixed messages and if 1 web sites states 1 thing, and another web says another, this can and could leave reps/invertrbates to be wrongly looked after and may lead to the death.
What do you think and what can be done to improve web sites.
Forums are also just the same, some say 1 thing others say something different.
Why are not websites/forums consistent in what to do when some-one want to buy their 1st rep ect.

the internet is a global free media, absoltely no way of controlling content. You'll get idiots writing websites just as sure as you get idiots driving cars or idiots walking dow the street.

With exotic keeping you have to remember that with msot things there is no right and wrong, just different peoples attempts at a best guess.

All you can do is comepare multiple sources, never beleive one person, book or website. check and compare and see what works for you, keeping exotics isn't about being told exactly what to do and blindly following it.

Basically a Chile rose (G rosea) is from the Attacama desert in Northern borders of Chile. Chile rose require bone dry substrate and absoloutely no spraying at anypoint in their decades of life.
The attacama is one of the driest deserts in the world, some parts havent seen rain in over 4000years.
They manage to live in such in hospitable conditions because theyr very well adapted for it. ALL the moisture they get comes from morning dew left on the plant leaves and stalks, and also getting their moisture from the food they eat.
As for heat, mine has been happy in my room at room temperature for well over 4 years.
Youl find the attacama to a particularly cold environment too. Grammastola sp. are very well designed to withstand such temperature drops (below 0c for short times).

As for captivity,

Do not spray the enclosure, no need for a heatmat for them, supply a waterdish, supply a hide and feed every couple of weeks.
You will find that Chile rose can go off their food for extended periods of time for no reasons. My female hasnt eaten in over 10months, probably 11 quite happily now. You could never tell to look at her.

I've found the more caresheets and info you read the basics are just the same. You'll never get diff people agreeing on just one thing coz everybody does things diff but the way i do it is read as much as i can and choose the bits that i think will work for me.
