In brief it’s a deregulatory review of the primary Act, in others words it will make the DWAA less complicated, easier to comply with and cheaper.

It will:

Extend the period of licensing from one to two years

The licence will run from date of issue, not calendar year

No mandatory ‘inspection’ when renewing

Remove all welfare considerations

The above are the primary changes, there are others. Possibly the significant change will be guidance issued to Local Authorities on how to implement the Act

All in all this should make the Act workable and less expensive.

thats great news, although they are pretty laid back here anyway tbh, but the two year period is good, the running from when you apply not from of year wont effect anyone that keeps already cos we are still gonna have to apply at the start of the year.

I sincerely hope this review will conclude with a good workable Act that does exactly what it says on the tin - protects the public whilst allowing people to keep the animals of there chose.

The ‘Barking Bunny Huggers’ will go ape droppings, but tough – the loony contingent have been too influential for to long. Time ‘us’ sensible people have a say, for once!
