So sad

I was doing my shopping yesterday and noticed a lot of eggs marketed as "barn kept chicken" which sounds better than "caged chickens", but people should remember that it's just one big hugely cramped cage - barn does not mean that they have any better quality of life than caged/farmed. It was only 50p extra for a box of free range.... don't be tricked by barn sounding like a nice place to live - it's not!

problem is even free range ones the only diffrentce is that they have access out side most of the time its a couple of tiny doors left open during the day and most birds dont even go out as they cant find the doors only way is to buy from local keepers or keep your own to be sure of free range eggs

Some of the so called "free-range" farms are no different. We'd all like to see our chickens happily living out a life outdoors, but sadly this isn't the case. Like in the link quite often they'll just be cramped up in a shed the same.

I've forgotten the name of the company but there was another major supplier of supermarkets that got heavily publicised for doing so.

Thats no suprise to me. I wouldn't truse the RSPCA Freedom Foods scheme as far as I could throw it. I'm a vegetarian anyway.

See this site! Hillside do a great job in exposing the disgusting ways in which farm animals are abused, neglected & expected to live for the length of their short lives. Hillside animal sanctuary

free range eggs here are much cheaper than factory farmed eggs from the supermarket.
