How common are reptile lovers

I dont know about you but none of my friends are into reptiles/exotics neither are my parents, brothers, cousins etc only my girlfriend. Just wondered if other people find themselves alone in appreciating snakes and the like in there circle of friends and family. The people I know only go for dogs and cats etc. which hold no appeal for me other than maybe a good meal for my babies

Just me really amongst my friends/work collegues.

With my family though my mum loves the snakes, and wants me to go on holiday so she can look after them, she loves to feed and hold them, my brother likes them too.

But my girlfriend hates them, I'm trying to win her round slowly.

My sister summed up my family's views when she told me that she is not surprised that I love my reptiles but they are not her kind of thing lol.

As for my friends, none keep reptiles although I did have a childhood friend that kept garter snakes. My girlfriend got me into the reptile thing and she loves them, and her mum is getting into them now too and often holds the geckos when she comes to visit. But yeah, I think most people seem to have an irrational fear of reptiles so dislike them before even getting to know them.

One of my brothers has 2 corns and some frogs. Nobody else I know likes reptiles!

i know a few people who are in to reps, but not many. I think you have different groups
1. Animal lovers of all animals
2. Animal lovers of just specific animals
3. People who just keep a pets but dont spend a majority of their time reading about them etc.

group 1 being rarest and group 2 being quite common but split between the different animals (dogs/cats/reps etc), and of course group 3 being a large percentage of the population.

There's a few corns,geckos, CWD's and a tortoise in the family but all my friends fink im a complete weirdo

My father loves them all C: And he was the one that really got us in to them.
We got out first snake when I was four, and then he bought be two bearded dragons when I was 9...
And then a Cali king when I was 11.
And then XD When I was 13 he came home for easter and asked my brother and I which hand C:
I ended up with a large male blonde phase trans pecos ratsnake and my brother a smaller female <3

Mum likes them, but not as much as he does.
My brother owned a snake, but she is mine now.
Two of my cousins love them but are not allowed them... And the rest of the family does not seems that bothered, although a couple are scared of them.

no of my friends do my dad like lizards but thats my only family member i aware there are a few reptile fan around my town but ive never met them

I'm the only one in my family, mom likes the lizards but not the live food, i've converted my hubby but he says were not having any more. My step-daughter loves them but "supposedly" caught salmonella so she no longer holds them when she stays at ours.
At work (theres 1 person whos son has a beardie but thats it) everyone thinks its odd, people quite often say "you can't fuss or love it like a cat/dog, whats the need etc" but i showed some of children in my class photos and always take in the snake skin when they've shed and they are amazed. We had a beardie come to visit and they loved it.
Get the children excited not scared about reptiles from a young age.
