Default please dont go to...

Please dont anyone go to *removed* Garden Center for any pets unless you want to save them.

I went today and was nearly crying in the shop. The tanks were filthy and half the animals were ill or had infections and quite a lot were dead!!!

The thing that got me most was the axolotl tank, they must have had at least 10 axolotls in a tank smaller than 1ft and 3 of them were dead and the rest were half way there, i managed to rescue the healthiest looking one but its very touch and go if it will make it. I feel so destroyed that i couldn't save the rest.

Report them to the council's licensing agency - they are responsible for giving the shop the authority for selling animals.

well i did say to the staff that they weren't looking after the animals properly, and i said about the axolotl tank being far too small and in a disgusting state and that i was rescuing the poor baby axolotl but at £12 for something half dead it was a rip off, but they were just quite rude and probably thought i was being a bitchy customer. And i did also say to one of the other staff that one of the fish in the tanks had white spot and she should treat it asap and she said "whats that"

....i think there should be better checks on pet shops coz its not just in this one that ive seen it, its all over the place. And i dont think shops should be allowed to sell an animal if they dont know how to look after it properly coz even if it is something small like a fish or mouse or snake and not a precious cat or dog its still animal cruelty

Sometimes, despite best intentions, buying from these places to rescue the animals is simply going to lead to more animals being bought in to replenish the stock, so continuing the issue. You are far better off informing the council, who can send an Animal Health Inspector to see for themselves the state the animals are in.

A petshop local to me had it's licence removed because of it's poor care for animals. This was only the fluffies, they have no herps (Or even equipment for herps) which I'm quite glad of.

But the councils do need to do more for care of animals in all pet shops/garden centres etc...
