Default advice on illegal import needed pls

i've just been informed that someone i know (not a friend) is planning on bringing a turtle or tortoise back from their holiday in turkey.
i believe they fly bk on wednesday, any suggestions or advice on any course of action i should take i.e what authority i should inform pls let me know.

Contact H.M Customs or DEFRA.

TBH though I'm not clued up on tort laws but there's free movement in the EU generally on reps so you may be wasting your time. Certain regulations apply to various species though (like EPS legislation, article 10's for CITES I species etc.etc.). Like I say I know nothing about tort law though. Shelled section here should be able to clear up that info for you.

Yeah if you want phone H.M.Customs but hope hes not a close friendcoz he wont be if he finds out

It's illegal as a) almost certainly it will be a Testudo Graeca (a number of subspecies live in Turkey) of some kind & needs CITES papers b) Turkey is not in the EC.

Get customs to give him a 'going over' when he lands - we don't need this kind of thing.

All it wil take is a call to customs at the airport, all my spurghs came from gatwick and heathrow, most were found in luggage some were found in pockets, VERY VERY SAD!!

thing is, if he really wanted one to care for for the rest of his life they are only around 100-150 quid, depending on their age from a uk breeder. not really worth getting caught for is it, apart from the fact he is damaging wild numbers and seriously stressing whatever he intends smuggling
