Default Basildon Show

Hi All,

Sorry for the delayed post, I’m only just recovering from the show - work has been manic & I had to catch up with looking after my own animals, not being helped by a shortage of small crickets for the Yemen babies (eating me out of house & home) and my little royal hatchlings refusing to feed

This is just to say a HUGE thank you to all those who attended our show and - the club members who helped to make it all happening! Despite the hassles we had with the hall owners/venue it turned out to be a great event.

Due to the growing number of visitors (we had over a 1000 people through the door this year!) and various problems with the current venue, we will do our best to try and find a bigger & more appropriate hall for next year.

If you know of a larger venue, which might be suitable for our requirements please get back to me with hall and contact details.

The issue of stolen animals, unfortunately, is an all too common occurrence at events like these. We did carry out a thorough check upon exiting the hall re receipts etc. but short of a body search (which we are not allowed to do) – what else can we do??? Rest assured though – if we ever manage to catch any of these scumbags…….

well i had a seller put a sticker saying sold on the box maybe if you used a particular colour the (keep the colour a secret) thieves can not copy this if you get what i mean i must say tho if some on was on the door when people left to check what you had brought then maybe this would be a deterant as nobody checked me for receipts. Their is always some who has to ruin it for every one else. Other than that i dont know what you could do, some kind of secruity tag but then i guess thats getting a tad expensive. Or one entrance and one exit so it can be controlled better as going out of the same place you came in was a bit squashed.

i thought the whole idea of us putting the stickers on boxs was they were being checked as people walk out ,that was a waste of time then

hey there people how long do the events last and on average how many people attend?
the reason i am asking is i have alot of quality doormen on my books (FULLY LICENSED which means they are allowed to conduct random searches and arrest thieves/trouble makers at the venue). is it worth looking into having a couple of lads for loss prevention / peace of mind if you was to have 2 lads over 2 days doing random bag searches you are looking at £550 which if there are 50 stalls paying an aditional £11.
how much does a stall lose??????????
just a thought have contacts all over uk rangeing from pubs to the millenium dome, excel arena. and from front line door supervisors to close protection officers.

I thought it was a good show, there is not much you can do about the occasional thief just have to be vigilant, and to be honest I have found security at this show is higher than any of the others I've been to in the UK and certainly far higher than the EU shows where there is no security at all - I dread to think how many animals are stolen at Hamm!

Hardly a waste of time, but if someone puts a snake into their pocket or conceals it on their person, the organisers can't start stopping every single person and patting them down as they leave. They were definitely all being checked, even if in a bag.

I have to say, I wasn't checked at all on my way out. Not that I have any inclination to become a snake thief!

Saying that it makes a nice change not being searched. I always get searched at airports because having pink hair and piercings means I'm OBVIOUSLY a drug smuggler..
lol

Haha you get that too huh, I get stopped at every 'random' check. And they always check if my boots have a secret compartment

Thanks for your post Christy - you beat me to it but I couldn't have said it better myself! Only to add - the thefts occured during the first 1/2 hr after opening when it was as its busiest - that's why we actually had 2 members at the door checking until midday, and one member covering until the end of the show!!! As far as the stickers are concerned - we did change color scheme & shapes this year, like we do every year!

Y'know you'll always have my help Connie

Thankyou for organising everything, I know you had a lot to do and was getting stressed out as it approached! You did good, and hopefully next year will be bigger/better as planned!!
