Default Winters coming and worried about power cuts

Anyone worried about power cuts this winter, we had a few last early this year and ended up taking the animals to a friends so they could keep warm and we could get some sleep.

Anyone got any plans for keeping going this year should the worst happen?

This is actually a very real worry; apparently we are in danger of experiencing serious power cuts this winter. For anyone who remembers the 70's, you will know what it was like and it's being stated that the energy crisis is so bad it will be worse than it was then.
I'm concerned about it too.

Came home to one today, a sub-station had blown.

We have one of the push along calor gas heaters for emergencies.

I just have, a nice 4 stroke(no fuel mixing) baby, but it does seem a hassle, was just wondering what others were doing...

I looked at UPS, but cost/power was just not cutting it.

I like the calor gas idea, but mine are in different rooms

unless the power cut is for days on end then its not really worth worrying about. Nobody drops a big ceramic in *insert country name here* when it gets a bit chilly.

We get power cuts quite regular - i sometimes think its off more than on! - however its never affected the animals.. The longest was about 2 days, when something *i cant remember what now* happened and the main gridline went down.

I have a petrol generator and a store of about 100, of the 30 hour heater packs, just in case.
