My sister hates the fact that her 2 daughters (2 and 3) and son (11) like to get so involved.
Dont get me wrong, they know when they can and when they cant like if im doing something delecate like probing or if they are ill but i dont see the problem with a 2 year old holding a corn, a millipede, a leo or something. (under strict supervision)
personally i think its best they get used 2 them incase they end up staying here.

Anyway your thoughts please!
my two love them

i have 2 daughters aged 11 and 3

my 3 year old has only hadnled the royal. i feel shes too young for lizards yet and i held the royal partially when she was but she loves to feed worms and insects to the lizards..

my older girls helps clean handle AND feed

I think its good - it teaches kids responsibility and the importance of looking after animals - my aunt calls my house the zoo and her kids (9yr old and 4yr old twins) often ask if they can go to the zoo to see the animals LOL!!! The 9yr old has held my beardie (tho doesnt like her claws so gave her back rather fast lol) and they have all smoothed my desert iguanas and degus and are facinated by my tortoise - they havent been around to help feeding or whatever but they'd probably struggle to catch crix etc anyway - but I tell each one a story about each animal too so they get to learn what it is and what they need - obviously the twins dont take much on board but the 9yr old does

i have always let my kids help me with some of yhe animals i have had ie corns ,king,milk and beardies but have always told them to stay away when dealing with larger more agreesive stuff ie burms retics and monitors until they were old enough to understand and capable of dealing with any situation they both now have beardies each and are 14 and 20

My daughter whos six always gets involved with our animals and is normally on water dish duty. She been around reps, inverts etc all her life and loves them. Funny thing is if she see's a bee she runs away but loves snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, mantids etc.

Yea i completely agree, its so sad to see because you can sometimes pinpoint the moment when the kiddies mood changes from 'wonder and excitement when they see the animal, to fear and disgust when they see their parents nagative reaction.

That was one of the reasons i was SO happy when Emma announced that she wants a frog as a pet (not that she'll be allowed one) because it showed that her mum's not been able to win!

My daughters friend wouldn't come in our house at first, its taken a while but now she always asks if she can help look after the animals when she comes round. She has overcome all her fears and is always asking questions. She would love a pet of her own but judging by the look of disgust on her mothers face when she tells her what she has been doing its not going to happen.

All our kids get involved with the care of the animals and all have a pet of their own. Its a good way to teach responsibilty.

My Niece (2) used to love my Reptiles, at first she was wary but saw that I held them and then wanted to aswell.
My Sister (26 LOL) was scared of all my reptiles when they were young, but when they got older, she got brave, especially with the beardies as she was petrified when they were babies when I first got them. But once they hit adulthood, she would even get them out the viv herself. I was living with my Sister when my beardie eggs were hatching and she was fascinated, loved them but said she'd never be able to keep them because of the crickets etc.
Alot of kids are scared of anything so it's good to get them used to things early on. I've taken gecko's to work before now for the Triplets who are 3 to see them, their parents didn't like them but the girls were soon holding and stroking them

Mant - Your pics are awesome!

Here's my Sister and my Niece, Keira with Jinx the Super Snow Leo;

My sis, ex-step daughter and Niece with Jinx again;
