Default Ball python....

So-

Dilemma.
I *reaaallyy want a snake (decided on ball python) however I'm sure my council wouldn't approve.

But does that really matter? They already know I own three leopard geckos. And they never come round so-
does anybody else keep snakes despite tenancy agreements, etc?

Theres nothing in mine that says I can't, FYI.

Be curious to hear from you guys.

Richard

When ever i buy a new reptile i dont inform the council, theres no need!

I assume you are in a council house?

Basically, by keeping the reptiles against the terms of the tennacy agreement. Therefore in effect you are breaking the contract, and they could basically turf you out if they wanted.

I think my tenancy agreement states
that I'm not allowed to keep an animal which is deemed to be dangerous in the councils opinion,
or something like that.

I'm in a council flat.
I was going on the basis that in order to evict me they'd have to prove that the animal is dangerous-
and seeing as going by statistics-
dogs kill more people every year than snakes do, as a general percentage, correct?
And if the council allow tenants to keep dogs than I don't see what the problem would be.
The council has only come to inspect my property once in any case (when I first moved in about two years ago).

My personal view then is that a 'small' snake would be fine, like a royal etc. They may form a different view on an adult burm or retic!

Id say so too. Royals are the nicest snakes ive ever come across and what got me comfy enough to hold other snakes after my previous snakes who scared the bejeesus out of me.

Bit of a risky move, but I just e-mailed the council asking what that above-mentioned clause covers and also asking what their position would be re. me wanting a ball python.
Also mentioned that I'm a ND student in Animal management and would be happy to answer any questions/queries they had.
