Default U.S. Herping....

i was wondering what a good topic would be on the forum this morning and thought about if you living in the u.k., suddenly was able to go anywhere in the u.s. and go herping for any species we have here, what would it be and where would you go. i mean, one person would want to go to the sonoran desert and look for gila monsters... another may want to see florida and catch an alligator... whatever it is...

if you had the chance and could go for free, what would you like to go and see in the wild...

... anyway, that's what i came up with... remember, anywhere... like a safari herping... any state and any herp.

... kick it around a little.

An interesting question, about a year an a half ago I went in search of the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake in the Great Lakes. A fantastic snake, and pretty common up there (on both the Canadian side, and the US side).

I guess this doesn't really answer the question... but hey.

I always love seeing Green Anoles in Florida but I guess going to Arizona and seeing Leopard Lizards would be great

Florida for me, EDB's Coral snakes, Cottonmouths, Alligators...........
Slightly off topic, many years ago I was in Wilmington NC and the road from the town back to the dock went through a swamp. One night a couplwe of us, slightly worse for wear/alcohol decided that on our walk back, it would be a jolly good idea to go Alligator hunting in the swamp, our alcohol befuddled brains reasoned that Alligators' eyes shone at night therefore we'd be able to see them easily and being the stealthy ninjas that we were, we could sneak around without them detecting us.................The reality was two drunken fools crashing about in the swamp, getting sh*tted up to the eyeballs and making such a racket that even the deafest of animals would've heard us coming!!! Needless to say we didn't see/catch any 'gators.

where ever one goes here just about, just find a patch of woods nearby... most places have something around in herp country. south carlonia is great for grren anoles and rough green snakes... city parks even.

if people were every going to florida to herp, let me know. it's just a few hours away on the bus... i could use a weekend getaway.
