Default PC Application

I am in the process of designing an creating a program which will help you manage and keep logs of your herp collection. I'm doing this firstly for myself but if others would benefit from the project then why not publicly release it

The program would:
  • Show details of your full herp collection (age, weight, etc...)
  • Show feeding days
  • Show an log of when they [shed, defecate, cleaned, etc...]
  • Inventory of feed items
  • and hopefully a lot more
I plan to release a lite version for free which allows 3 or so herps to be tracked but won't have any of the more advanced features breeders or people with larger collections would find useful which I will charge for.

The question is how much would you pay to buy this kind of software? I know there are a couple of similar things in the market but in my experience they are all 'clucky' and not very user friendly.

If this all works out I will also make a web-based version which will sync with your computer so you can update things easily using an iPhone or when you can't get to your own PC.

So how much is this worth to you?

Not at this stage but I assure you it will look professional and be very user-friendly.

...after 5 years of studying IT and nearly completing a degree this year... not to sound harsh or anything, but it seems like a simple program that could easily be produced on Excel or a DB - and has been done lol

what program would you be using to create it?

i do however think you got a good idea but would need to be really in depth for it to have a good impact.

... sorry if it came out offensive, just giving an input

Ian

Its a great idea, but there are plenty of other applications like this already in existence. Just do a google search for "herp software". I think the Degei one is meant to be pretty good.

Degei was my main reference when I said old and clunky and hard to use.
