Default Opening a shop

Hi not sure if anyone here could help, but I have been offered a shop to rent for the sale of reptiles in the Blaby area in Leicestershire, does anyone here have experience of obtaining a license eg requirements and cost, have been trying to get hold of the relevant person for a couple of days now but they never answer there phone.
Thanks

Its always nice to see a shop open, although there are 2 very close to there, literally a mile or so one is and the other maybe 2.. so quite close, but could be something to look into

Hiya, I was considering setting up shop too here in Leeds. I'm on the verge of walkingout on my Call Center job and as fantastic as T-Pets and (to a lesser extent) Paws For Thought are, there aren't really any other good herp shops in the Leeds area. Right now I'm just making early enquiries into how to go about it, but it's something I'm determined to do!

Anyway, best of luck with your venture Mandy, keep us informed on how you get on!

With the current financial climate your chances of success are slim to none. You'd be lucky if you made a small profit in the first 2 years if you manage to keep it open that long.

Tend to agree with Daren 25. Rent, buiness tax, higher price electric, insurance, the list goes on and on, got to sell alot of stuff before you turn a profit. I had a butchers shop for many years my takings were about 2k a week 30% gross profit by the time i had payed my overheads, i was lucky to see anything. Its not as easy as many think. Sorry to put a downer on things. and of course best of luck to you. Every extra shop makes our hobby grow more popular

alot of businesses are going under, not just rep shops but that does not mean it's not a good time to start a new business.
a good quality business will have a greater chance of survival while the poor quality business will fail leaving the good to flourish when times are better
