Default Reptile Nights/Meeting...Questions...

Ok, so I'll probably get a few people 'having a go' for this but I see numerous threads going up about various 'reptile nights', 'reptile meets' etc

I have never been to one but from the threads what I understand is that people meet up off the forum and take a few of there reptiles with them??
This is what I understand takes place at the 'Wirral Herps Society' and from reading the latest thread about 'York Reptile Meet' I'm guessing people are taking their reps to these things.

So my questions are...
...do you not worry about infection/disease etc??
...do you put your reptile into quarantine when you come back from this meet or put it straight back into your collection?

I'd be very concerned about taking one of my boa's to somewhere that had other boa's that could potentially be carrying something nasty. And surely this is a good way of spreading diseases through peoples collections?

thats understandable as people have viruses and diseases they dont know about and even when they do know somethings up they keep quiet

I agree with you. Plus you have the added unnecessary stress on said reptile.

I agree. Having recently set up a reptile society we discussed about reptiles actually being at the events/meetings. We were all in agreeance its a time and place for keepers to come together but not the animals.

You've hit nail on the head with disease transmission but theres also the stress aspect involved in taking the animals to the event and keeping them there for prolonged periods of time. Stress is a little understood subject in regards to reptiles and something that should be avoided. Technology allows such good video and photos that actual specimens are rarely needed.
