I dont think its important to know it all. You can learn easily enough. I just think its important to at least show an interest.
If your a rep shop and some bint just wants to pet the mice get shot of her.
Get someone else in who is actually interested and likely to learn.

i have to disagree. it is important to know everything. small mom & pop's shops have to compete with the big box stores and customer service and expertise is your only edge. you can't compete with jack's aquarium and pets or petsmart or the others. at the big store people expect indifference from clerks but at a small store thay are paying a little more because they believe that you have a genuine concern for them... you got their backs. you have to go the extra mile. small shops are dieing off here because of the corporate, walmart type of place. am i making any sense?

No i agree with you. Im saying that when you take staff on you shouldnt expect them to know everything but be willing to learn.
I think being proactive, being keen on the hobby and learning what you can from the others around you would make someone a fantastic shop worker.
Besides if you have a 'snake expert' and a 'turtle expert' so long as they can work it between them everything should be fine.

I go to chrysalis pets in buckley. The guy who works there is really helpful and friendly to me.
