Got a phone call from my dad today to tell me Scientists have discovered lizards which were thought to be extinct 500 years ago! They were found on the Island of La Gomera where my dad lived for a while before moving to the next Island (which may be more well known) Tenerife. Anyway, thought it may be of interest to you so I googled it and found this report.. I am sure there are probably more reports but this is the first one that came up..
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/682621.stm This report shows a picture of one (small picture!) and also a small map showing the Island next to Tenerife.. Unfortunately I am unable to translate the report for you! http://www.rozhlas.cz/priroda/porady/_zprava/6231 (Moderators - Wasn't sure if I should post this in Lizard Section or here.. I suppose it fits into both catogories but didn't want to double post so feel free to move it to lizard section if you want!)
