Default been wondering

I have been thinking latley and over the years of reptile keeping i have found quite a lot of people to be more intrested in the cash side of reptiles than the care and intrest of them. I have sold things really cheap (as the money has not been important) and have them promise that they will give them a forever home unless the circumstances change which in that case they would come back to me to then find out that they have sold them on for twice the amount to someone who have very little knowledge on reptiles. To me my animals are like my children but due to health reasons over the past couple of years i have had to downsize a huge amount to cope with them and have had this done to me with nearly every animal.
So its either that i am a bad judge of character or most of the people in the reptile world are like this now.

I have the problem now of health problems getting worse and cirumstances changing but the reptiles i have left i have had for 5 years now and mean a lot to me and im stuck in the position were i am finding it hard to keep them now but am scared to try and find new homes cos this has happend to me so many times.

Whats your opinions on this?

Agreed, I feel like a mother to all my reptiles. They are good companions, couldnt pass any of them up unless it was absolutely necessary!

sometimes it is going to happen its human nature at times to be greedy
otherwise why would we have so many imigrants going thru 23 safe countries to land on our shores??
i sell any snakes i have at a decent amount some i have lost a little on but then thats down to the downturn in economy mainly rather than supply and demand
and would like to think that they have forever homes, some people have kept in touch which i like and others havent , some people sell for various reasons and others in a situation like yours,i would prefer any that are being sold on to come back to me to be honest, but well life can have circumstances that change and some have travelled a distance
in the end i dont think its a bad judgement and my snakes have all been cheaper than shops(although know a few good priced ones)
best of luck in your decisions tho

I agree, many people like that out there. Still, plenty more people who treat their reps like a dog or cat, as in a family pet

Serz you could form an agreement be it written or otherwise where who ever take on your pets have to keep them in their care. Unsure if this is what you want but is there not a god friend who could do this for you?
Reason I ask is there has been many people who ask us to keep the rescues as long time residents and where this is possible we do agree and update them with emails and pics. Perhaps suggesting this should you need to find carers else where might help?
Hope you find what your looking for love and find comfort in them. xxx

Thanks for all the replies and for yours RRD.

I have gotten to the point now with my healh that i am just doing there basic needs as in feed, clean and water they are not getting the out time that they are used to. They are all handlable and especially my BTS who loves nothing more that wandering around the living room or curled up at the back of my neck on the sofa but at the moment i havent the motivation or feel well enough to do that so i feel that they are getting neglected to the standard that i usually keep them in (handling wise).

I am scared to find them a new home incase that person doesnt care for them in the correct way or neglets him ect and doesnt give him his favorite food, or sell him on to someone else that doesnt have any knowledge but im feeling at the moment that i cant cope with them anymore so feel i am stuck and going round in circles and dont no what to do
