Default Collecting Stock from Hamm

Hi

Can someone clarify the resent changes in the law with regards to bringing animals back from European shows such as Hamm. I understand that you now need some sort of transportation licence etc. I think these changes came into effect towards the beginning of the year.

thanks

Stuart

You only technically need the license if you are transporting for commercial activities.. however if worried it is free and basic to get (well, costs a stamp..)

Information on who needs the license and full details
Defra, UK - Animal health and welfare - Animal welfare - During transport - EU welfare

Application form for journeys up to 8 hours in length
Defra, UK - Forms and guidance - Animal welfare

Application form for journeys over 8 hours in length
Defra, UK - Forms and guidance - Animal welfare

Exemptions from Regulation

The Regulation does not apply to the transport of animals:
  • Where the transport is not in connection with an economic activity; or
  • Transport to or from veterinary practices or clinics under veterinary advice; or
  • When the animal is an individual animal, is accompanied by its owner or other responsible person and is fit for the intended journey; or
  • Where the animals are pet animals accompanied by their owner on a journey.
I guess we'd fall under those two catagories. Make sure you have paperwork for any Cites I animals and I'm not sure if you need them also for CITES II species - can someone here clarify?

Basicly if your getting the reptile to breed from for selling, or the person bringing back is doing so for some kind of payment, then yes, to the letter of the law you need a licence.

Its sometimes hard to justify what the reason is for transporting, so its just as easy to get one !

I dont need one to take my animals to one of our many public displays, or delivering a free rehome, but I do id taking reptiles to a show like essex for sale, or bringing back from hamm for a charge !

So its best to take my licence with me anytime i am transporting reptiles, saves any hassle

Can some one whos been to hamm before detail the best way to transport them back. Do we need to bring poly boxes and some sort of heating? how do we plug in lol or will they be fine as its only an over night travel?

Will the reps all beon the coach with us or are they going in the luggage? must get cold down there?

I have too many Q's, never been before and dont want to get caught out by anything! Doesnt seem to be any info anywhere or best way to transport them.
