Default another bad shop

I just got back from a reptile and pet shop, that i heard was under new owner ship, it was bad before so i thought i would go and see if it had improved, sadly it was much worse.
there was 3 tiny royal pythons that looked very young and probably never had a feed in a 3ft cage with no water or hides, 2 of them were very skinny and dehydrated, there was also a dead pinkie in there and it was crushed and rotten. i am pretty sure they were wc and they were charging £75 for them.
there was also really skinny hatchling corns, a bearded dragon being kept with plated lizards, it was an adult male and the price was £130. there was also another bearded in with a green iguana, and the iguana was picking at rotten greens that were black and moldy. the iguana was marked up for £140.
every cage was filthy and none of the reptiles had any water or food,
i wanted to save the healthier looking royal, but i know if i bought it they would get more in, also it was expensive and probably have problems feeding and i suspected it to be wild caught.
i was shocked by the conditions and felt sorry for the reps, these shops give the reptile community a bad name and should be shut down,

Whats the situation with naming and shaming? Are then any legal reasons involved?

Naming means you can be done for (or threatend with) slander.

However if you post the road and the first letters etc they cant say as much...

It also doesn't help the forum if we allow the posts to remain, so we don't allow naming.

if naming is not allowed, are "we" allowed to mention the area/road etc, so people can "guess", or is that just taking the piss?

Naming shops publically does nothing - if you are interested in discussing this privately and finding out the shop you can always PM or email the original poster and they can pass on the information to you in private.

Please please do report shops that you consider are not keeping animals correctly to the local council licensing department. One complaint may not make a difference - but repeated complaints over time will have to be seen to. Shops do get closed down, it's not as often as some of us would like - but it does happen, and people CAN change for the better if educated (or threatened with being closed down!)

So if you have visited a shop that is bad, you do far more good by reporting it than by naming it here. Naming it here will just cause an argument that is pointless and does not help the reptiles. Do not be afraid to email, phone, or write to the council licensing department. It is the only way we can make a difference, by actually going to the relevant authorities, no matter how little they seem to care... you must still report it.
