Suburban snakes, lizards, and screams.

Whilst taking a walk to the local shops this last Sunday, my wife and daughter-inlaw came upon a snake that was on a footpath, which was also near a main road. They thought it was a fake rubber snake, but as they walked towards it, it quickly took off into a wooden area. Of course my wife let out a serious scream (which I heard from my back garden ).

Less than 5 minutes later into their walk, they then saw a lizard on a brick wall, which was down a pathway used by many people daily.

What were the chances of seeing both a lizard and a snake, within 5 minutes of each other, in a built up suburban area?!

Have any members on here, ever seen either a UK lizard or snake in this type of enviroment, rather than seeing one "out in the field"???.

Note- They did manage to take a photo of the lizard, using a mobile phone, and it appears to be a common lizard, brown in colour, and looks to be 4 to 5 inches long.
Unfortunately they were too busy screaming to think about taking a pic of the snake, plus it moved pretty quick!
By what they described though, it was at least 18 inches long, greenish/brown in colour (probably a grass snake), although they cannot remember if it had a yellow ring around its head or not, definately not a slow worm though, my wife has seen them before...T.T.

get lizards frogs and toads in my garden quite often but never seen a snake in the wild

no im a country bumpkin so ive only ever seen grass snakes and adders literally in the fields

i live in quite a rural area and ive never seen a wild snake, and there is apparently quite a large population of adders in my area

i've seen one grass snake out and about on a old pathway in dartford before, but that was about 17 years ago!

Just get a bit of metal fencing and put it on a patch of grass... you will find all sorts underneath it after a while at the sun keeps it warm.

i never see anything altho i did see a nice frog wen i went fishing but iv seen them lots

I saw a lizard far off on a wall(in the country side, the wall touor house which is a farm) but as i was walkingover to see it, our spaniel jumped of, and almost eat it!!!so it scampered away.

the snake was probably hunting the lizard, lol

I've seen adders, grass snakes but never lizards
