Default Reptile Vet

Hi,

Does anyone know, in short, what you need to do to become a reptile vet?

I know vetenary courses are long, and cover all animals, but are there any specialised degrees that people know of where you can pick up a career straight into reptiles? Or do you need to complete a standard vetenary degree, and then complete a post graduate specialist course?

I dont think Ill ever do it (not with the crippling debt my BSc has left me in!) but it'll be nice to know in case I do ever decide to pursue one of my many dreams lol!!

Cheers

I'd imagine doing a standard vetinary degree and maybe final year basing a thesis on reptiles and presumably the course can be tailored with specific modules and options to choose.

dont do it its pants.when i did mine it cost me 4 k to do and the jobs are very far and in between, also the pay is min wage, you get more working in tesco.also you have to train to be a vet nurse which means you have to be in paid employment before you will be even acepted on the course-again its very hard to find the job and get it if your not qualified in it.also there is no such thing as a reptile vet nurse.you have to do the basic training an they once qualified you have to find a vet to take you on and train and pay for futher courses.honestly i wouldnt bother.you cant get a morgage or love on a vet nurse wage...yeh job satifaction but thay doesnt pay the bills, i wish i hadnt hence the reason i went into human nursing.

If you want to be a reptile vet its no good doing a vet nursing course. You need the Veterinary Science degree - 5-6 years depending which uni you go to.

ive got the vets job and yeh i agree its so hard to get into unless you have qualifications aswell but even with the job its so hard to get on a course for me being 23 to go to uni its gonna cost £3,070. Which is redicilous cos you get a bursary of £1570 so still have to pay stupid amounts. My sis is going to kings college uni next yr for childrens nursing and she gets a bursary of £2000 and doesnt have to pay for the course either. but she has to do a diploma for a yr then the degree (but cos my dad earns too much money she will have to stay on diploma cos she looses out so much money)
