Default How long has captive breeding been going on?

Can anyone tell me roughly how long commonly kept species like corns, leos etc have been being bred in captivity?

I think Amel Corns were first bred in the USA in the 1950s, so normals probably earlier than that?

how long have zoos been around?...how long have animals been exported....a bloody long time thats for sure.

for example the reverend bateman discribes in his book the vivarium that london zoo along with a good few other keepers and breeders in the Uk use gas lamps to replicate there natural basking temps over the last 50 years for BTS .....this book was published in 1897.....so just for blue tounges they have been bred for a minium of 160 years

I haven't got time to look it up at the moment but check out the menagerie at the Tower of london.

They were keeping and breeding reptiles in something like the seventeen hundreds.
