Hook of Holland to Hamm?

Just wondering if anyone ever goes via Hook of Holland when driving to Hamm, and what the route is like?

It seems okay from the maps, but never hear of anyone taking this route. Is it mostly because of price?

I imagine that most don't use the route due to the cost. I have used the Hooke to travel into Holland and Germany on many occasions (I worked for a Dutch firm for 10 years and now work for a German company). The E35 is a good road with no major bottle necks once past Rotterdam.

Rotterdam can be hell at rush hour, 1-1.5 hours to get past on a bad day.
It can also get busy around the other major cities, particularly Utrecht.

Can definately recommend the over night ferry service on the way out, very relaxing. Difficult not to drink to much though

Yeah, I did the Hook -> Houten last weekend and it was an easy drive, was a bit of a jam getting back past rotterdam at 5pm even though it was a sunday mind you but only 30 minutes or so.

Was going to do the tunnel from folkestone to Calais and then on to Hamm, but it actually works out a total of 6.5 more hours driving for me (across the round trip journey)... so I might go stenaline again.

It is more pricey, but depends I guess if it saves a hotel, which going overnight should do.

I took the tunnel more than the ferry, but this was mainly due to the fag and wine run .

Rotterdam is much like London, you get a mass of traffic heading into it on Sunday because the traffic is so bad on a Monday morning. If you get off the ferry quick and put your foot down you can at least miss most of the morning rush hour.

Once past here you may get slowed down for 15/20 minutes here and there but it is no real problem.

One thing I always do is prebook the dinner and breakfast on the ferry and get straight in there. Decent value and lots of choice.

Nerys and I went via the Hook of Holland earlier this year and it was only a short drive from the ferry to the show. Yep, its expensive, but you can also have a good night on the ferry with mates - such as Gaz
