Default Legalities of buying abroad

During my travels around the threads I have noticed a few people stating they are planning to buy various types of animals from lizards and snakes to torts abroad.

What are the legalities of importing exotics? Also what about quarantine as I never see these matters mentioned?

Just wondering as it doesn't seem to be an issue ever mentioned in the posts.

Thanks guys.

No simple answer to this, depends on what country they are coming from and which country they are going to.

However, within the EU, and as long as they do not constitute a commercial activity, then the only restrictions are cites dwa etc.

There are now some possible comebacks due to the eps laws, which , if you were thinking of getting a species on the list, you would know about.

Reptiles are not subject to quanteen

Importing from outside the EU is more tricky, as is any air transport within the EU, as not only do the animals need to be correctly packed the also need the correct transport docs, possible import licence (depending on species) and even export licences (again depending on species and country of origin)

Basicly is its standard common unrestricted species from within the EU for your enjoyment as a pet and not to make money from, then your fine.

However, i would recomend getting reciepts for everything in case !

When we all go over on the coach we are all covered with the Animal Transport Licence from defra, however some parts of the law reguarding transporting DWA are a bit complicated but yo can find all this on he defra site
