Off topic a bit, but rescuing animals from bad shops is just encouraging the owners to keep the conditions exactly as they are. I know that not rescuing animals is heartbreaking, but having a few animals die in a pet shop might encourage the owner to look after them better in future.

Not sure there's much you can do if a snake dies after a week. Talk to the owner and keep your fingers crossed. You may get a replacement, you may get a discount off a replacement, you may be told to go away. I'd be really surprised if you got money back! Would you want a replacement from there?
The shop owner on more than one occassion has contacted my mum (who is a veterinary nurse and works for a animal care college in the area) and asked her to re-home some of the animals they have had in (free of charge)!

ummmmm... What does it matter how much the snake cost ? Would the owner have a PM done if the snake cost £1,000 ?

40 is a cheap shop price right? I thought that was kinda starting price from breeders.
Its all about expectations... if the shop expects repeat custom they will wana keep the buyer sweet.

If the buyer expects the PM to show that there was soemthing wrong with the snake... he could get it done and have the shop pay for it.

if the shop expects this... they will refund.

if the buyer expects its nobodies or his own fault... he wont want to get one done.

I know nothing really about royals though, is there a common problem/cause of death other than not feeding?

Sod the shop.... surely the point is that an animal has died within two weeks of getting it home and nobody knows what it died of.

If the owner is an experienced royal keeper as stated, then presumably the animal looked healthy enough when they took it on. There are so many viruses going around that can and do kill animals, I would be worried that it has passed something on to the rest of my animals and would want to know what killed it... this thread seems to be more about cost and blame rather than the possible consequences of what has happened.

This sounds a bit of a leap and I'm just really making sure, but he doesn't have any boas in close vicinity that there could be any chance of transmission of disease?
It came from a tank that had Boas and Pythons in it together, And he has Pastl Boa at home and is really worried abut it and his other Royals now. What diseases are there and what should he do? He did take it too a local vets and they said they don't really deal in Reptiles and would have to take it to a specialist centre.

Errr...this is where I just accepted a Job offer from. Its a friends snake and I was just asking everyons advice, I'm not sure what he plans on doing, I will pass it all on but I think its just one of those things. The shop have said they will replace the animal if he has a recipt, but he didn't keep it.
