OK, I wasn't to sure where to post this.
A friend of mine a week last saturday (13/10/07) bought an 07 Royal Python from a pet shop in the Manchester area. He fed it in the week and it was fine and when he checked it last night it was fine, today when he woke up it was dead. He contacted the shop and was told the manager was on holiday all week and the assistant manager was off until tomorrow and the girl in the shop 'didn't know what to do'. She told him to put it in the freezer and phone back tomorrow. Unfortuantly his parents don't like the idea of putting a dead snake in the freezer with the food they are going to be eating. I'm not quite sure what to advise him, and if he is likely to get his money back from the shop. Anyone any ideas? Thanks, Becci x

Chances are that he has no guarantee on the animal as most shops will only give a 24 or 48 hr warranty.
That isn't to say they will ignore you, but that they don't have to unless they want to help. Animals unfortunately die, if you can't prove that there was something wrong with it before then you don't tend to have grounds to go any further. Most decent shops will come to an arrangement if they don't think that they are being conned though. Mike |

Mine do it for £30. Anyhow, just wait and see what the shop says in the morning when you speak to them. If they are a decent shop then they should sort you a replacement out. Also if the royal was that cheap at a shop it's likely to be a crap quality CF/WC specimen.

yeah for 40 in a shop i would suspect summat, a PM wont cost too much but its not worth it if the snakes not worth too much, the main reason you would need get one done is if he has other reps and wants to know if it had anything that could be passed on

I don't know of any shop that gives more than 7 days and most are 24-48 hours like fish places, if that. However, if he goes back in and is reasonable they may well replace it?
Did it eat by itself and strike? Because I would not be suprised to hear of a royal that hadn't eaten dying but if it ate unassisted you would think it would be reasonable healthy. This sounds a bit of a leap and I'm just really making sure, but he doesn't have any boas in close vicinity that there could be any chance of transmission of disease? There is really little point in a PM unless you are worried about disease and spreading in a collection, because a good 80% of the PMs I have spent money on have come back inconclusive anyway.

>It isn't a very good shop, not one I would buy
>animals from but I know my mum has rescued >a few from there. Off topic a bit, but rescuing animals from bad shops is just encouraging the owners to keep the conditions exactly as they are. I know that not rescuing animals is heartbreaking, but having a few animals die in a pet shop might encourage the owner to look after them better in future. Not sure there's much you can do if a snake dies after a week. Talk to the owner and keep your fingers crossed. You may get a replacement, you may get a discount off a replacement, you may be told to go away. I'd be really surprised if you got money back! Would you want a replacement from there? |
