Tips for Hamm

Does anyone have useful tips on driving over to Hamm? Things like odd European rules, things to have with you, places to avoid etc?
I haven't driven abroad before and looks like I'll be going alone so want to be extra prepared.

Also any useful things for bringing back the snakes other than poly boxes and pillow cases? Good Hamm journey anecdotes also appreciated!

Your supposed to have a first aid kit, warning triangle and light deflectors by law in Germany but I never have had them and never been asked. I lived in Germany for over 2 yrs the roads are brilliant better than ours the autobahns are great hardly any traffic jams. They do hide their speed cameras well not like ours. Your supposed to have insurance for mainland Europe and I would recommend getting breakdown cover imagine being stuck in the middle of no where in a foreign country? I wouldn't declare anything at customs your supposed to again but if you do you will get stuck for ages while they check everything. Just dont tell them and plead ignorance.

Yeah I think I might to be honest! I dont mind the driving really, its the being alone that bothers me, worried I'll get masisvely lost in the wilds of Germany or something!

Andy - have tried to PM you a bout Hamm but the site doesnt seem to be playing ball. I think on reflection I'd prefer to go with you lot, rather than risk getting lost or something equally stupid!
