I don't see how it would make any difference sending a courier to get an animal or you going and picking it up, couriers I know would look after and transport the animals the exact same way as I would.
Also i was rescuing for 2 years before i could drive. and went as far as scotland to pick up animals. surely you had friends that drove back then?

And i totally agree, No vertibrate animal should be sent any other way

umm a bit one sided, why should spiders be less thought of than reptiles .

i know friends who send via tnt and have no problems what so ever and packaging and care of how you package is important to ensure safe delivery, so do people who send snakes and lizards through tnt not nice people then, do they not care about their animals,

if you think sending a reptile via tnt in apporitate packaging safe and secure, and warm is wrong then so is sending spiders and invertabrates via royal mails system where it can be argued they throw parcels around and couldn't care less.
some peeps couldn't care less and send invertbrates in flimsy second hand packaging no packing inside so the spider or insect is thrown around inside the box cold and without heat shoved and thrown about with other items squished into a mail mans bag and dragged around on route.
so based on your theroy i take it spiders and other invertabrates are not equal to recieve the same level of care then so royal mail is ok for this.

i know many breeders of reptiles and they would be appauled that it was thought because they used a courier service they couldn't care less, how wrong can you be!

Inverts can be packed a lot more securely with tissue so the dont bang around, they are also a lot more able to cope with colder weather

And TNT is not a courier service, proper couriers are fine but not parcel post, thats all i am saying

I personally have worked for Parcel force and TNT and can tell you, I would never send a vertebrate through these means. Inverts as tarantulabarn has mentioned can cope far better with the journey, even still i wouldn't subject anything to that journey.
