I keep all new reps in my bedroom for 3-6 months before adding them to the rest in my living room.

Just helps to make sure that I don't spread mites or other nasties around my entire collection.

I chose other cos i only quarantine when it's needed. Like when adding a rep to the same tank as another. Which has only happened once. All my reps live alone.... bless lol

Definately, gets awkward with snakes here there and everywhere but why risk it? our collection can spread accross the front room, hall, landing and bedroom. I don't think I know anyone personally who bothers to quarantine, well certainly not in another room. I wish they would, Just hope they don't learn the hard way
So much can go wrong. Could have done for us this year when hubby was moving furniture and reps etc around in the bedroom, pushed some furniture out onto the landing, brought it all back in, walked up the landing and found 4 hatchling tubs which he thought he must have put there so took them back in the bedroom and put them on the hatchling shelves!! Eeek! they were still in quarantine. Fortunately he called me up to inspect the new wardrobes and I noticed my snakes were missing. Hubby was in the dog house and I was very hot under the collar for a while, daft mistake, and we were very lucky. Even in that short space of time something could have spread. Just very thankful that those snakes in quarantine didn't have anything to pass on.

Always Quarantine VERY IMPORTANT, far too many herps needlessly contract unnecessary diseases sometimes fatal because of people not quarantining new additions theres no need at all to risk it imo
rant over

I only have two reps who share a viv, they are my beardies who I bought within a day of each other from the same place, they'd already been in the same viv so no, I didn't quarantine them.
But for anything else, yes providing I had a spare viv (Which I have 3 of!) If I didnt have a spare viv.. I'd get atleast a faunarium for a few months.

Didn't bother with my beardies as they were in the same viv when i bought them but i have always done it with my snakes.

Always wash hands etc between handling snakes as well even when handling in the same session - just in case any beasties are on my hands / arms and get transferred.

I also always keep them on newspaper or kitchen towel at first as it makes it easier to spot mites etc.

Interesting point of view..

So all diseases etc can only be spread if one rep touches/comes into direct contact with another?

Airborn?

Mites/the diseases etci they carry?

(etc etc etc etc etc)
