Ive had my Bluey for about 18 months now, when I got him they had a few but I picked the smallest one with tail damage and missing toes(I know Im a mug) as he was getting picked on. He is great but refuses to eat anything alive and doesnt really like veg, I have to disguise it
He lives at present in a 4 ft viv but eventually he will go in a 5 ft viv. He is quite tame and begs for food if he sees you feeding the dogs. We now know he is definately a male as he mates his rock and leaves sperm packets?? Lovely boy.

Any ideas about getting him to eat live food like locusts?? He just shuts his eyes

Is it normal for them to shed every few weeks?

Anyone got any set up pictures as I like to change the scenery when I clean him out

Well i'll put some pics up - but i havn't got my BTS yet, i need to add a log hide but you'll get the idea.

As for eating live, i would maybe dip the meal worm, cricket, locust whatever in mince juice or somthing like that. . .


so it smells more like meat and less like live food

LOL I think hes just plain lazy but yes I will try mixing them with some mince. If he had his way he would just eat canned snails he adores them

Oooh I could dip some locusts in the snail juice he may eat them then. Its clean out day tomorrow, he gets very excited when he goes back in his clean rearranged viv.

I'm going to breed some land snails. They have hundreds at a time which is handy.

You can buy them off ebay and people often give them away.

Maybe offer him some Land snails, or roaches? I've heard they like them?

As for the shedding, they go through periods of shedding alot, he'll pretty much slow down at 2 years so maybe hes just having his last big growth spirt?

Best way to get them to eat insects is to not feed them. If you check temps etc and its all fine id suggest cutting out anything thats not live or veg. Offer insects and veg every couple of days. If there is no alternative they will get eaten.
Fat makes them sluggish, just wait and see how active he gets when he has to catch his own food. Feeding him premade foods all of the time is like us going on a mcdonalds diet. We know other things are better for us but the bad stuff tastes nice.

Ive done this before but he is very stubborn, I know he needs to eat insects etc but at least hes not fat. Ive seen pics of obese BTS and they arent nice.

Im buying a BTS and hes on the chubby side how do I help him shed a few pounds?

We need to decide if it really is fat yet, then we can look at options to reduce its weight.

my male sumtimes gos ages without eating, usually when he is ready to shed, when he as shed eats us out house x home lol, eats his worms x bugs by hand wont chase them, get let out ov viv every day 4 an hr too to stay fit x work dinner off lol
