Thanks chondro, not quite the quality of yours but, you give me some thing to aim for with my next viv. Going to go down the phibs route on my next one, some of the frogs are simply stunning

I work from home and have a large office so thinking half of it could be a nice viv room...lol

As I keep saying I was planning on introducing a species every 2/3 months so it's not as if I'm just going to throw them all in at once....lol

I have to ask have you looked into the dangers of mixing?

have you considered,

Stress, and how the different species act when stressed. Stress can simply come from being near a different animal or species constantly and it can lead to lowered immune systems no eating and other issues.
Pathogen, disease, bacteria transfers (as u are housing different species from different geological ranges)
Food competition
quarantine, most people would suggest at least 3 months and a faecal screening especially if your mixing.

also you dont have any experience keeping these animals, u dont know the nuances of there care, also its best to know the individual animals in question, one might be shyer or more aggressive than the norm making them unsuitable for mixing. like my make green anole is very territorial and will face down pretty much anything.

there's alot more to mixing than, Oh these species look like they need about the same care lets put them together there's things like micro habitats to consider. I'm not having a go i just think these are things u need to consider.

Ok lets move on to the tank. it looks lovely but there are some issues

Size, its pretty small (well too small) for the shear numbers your planning to put in there, and with mixing u need lots of extra room to aviod stress agression and the like

Basking spot, there's only 1, you'll need at the very least 2 maybe 3

air flow/ventalation, basically there is non, and this is something the rough greens (an probably the anoles and day gecko) wont like, you need better ventilation rough greens are hard enough to care for at the best of times (most are poorly imported parasite ridden wild caught animals that dont make it past a few years, from what i hear they need the correct humidity while a good air flow otherwise they will likely perish)

just a few things you should think about.

First of all, I am not being condescending! I am being Honest. If you did not want honest opinions you should have taken your pics to the pet shop! You say you did your research, so it puzzles me that you have made so many errors! Not just with the types of animals you want to keep, but having that idea in mind, the amount of errors in their husbandry...I have actually tried to be nice about this...there is alot more that needs to be said...like do your research on One animal and read the care sheets, then make a set up for that One animal. Research is getting information on more than one source, not the guy at the pet shop, not a post on a forum (although this forum has great members and most ive very good advice) you must read more than one care sheet as they are contradictive, you must read more than one book, as some are outdated, and you must get to know one animal very well before you get more..I wish you the best of luck and hope that myself and others and kept you from making such big mistakes...especially as you are new to the hobby...I am not an expert by any means...I only keep a few species, but I could spot the mistakes right away...after reading up on anoles and geckos, they are probably best not kept together either. I really do wish you all the happiness in the world...baby steps though.

.

just realised you modded the top, i still dont think this will allow enough air exchange for a rough green snakes tho but might be enough for anoles or day geckos.

tbh i don't know much about community vivs
anihoo why not just go for one species and hav a few different morphs or subspecies would look just as good like that imo

Nice set-up, I agree with everyone else about mixing species. I started with dreams of a mixed viv but quickly saw the light, just means I have more vivs now lol ;~)
Anoles and day geckos should be ok, just make sure they are of a similar size.
Have a look at my gallery for ideas of natural viv set ups. good luck

Cheers for your comments....

You will have read about 10 posts back that I no longer intend to get a rough green snake after ilovetoads2 comments so that point is now not applicable.

I got my first anole today and he 'seems' very happy already but we will see. I don't intend on adding any thing else except maybe another anole for at least 2 months....

As for the other hot spot that some one suggested, am I definately going to need another one if I just have anoles and geckos in there?

Oh and the tank is 260ltr basically 4ft x 2ft x 2ft, you think this is too small for 6/7 small lizards?

Cheers...

I would also like to add that as with any new interest it's never going to be 100% right first time no matter how much thought you put in to it that's why I posted it on here is to get peoples opinions and advice

As far as research goes I've got 2 books on each species, god knows how many care sheets, done the reptile shop thing and visited many websites, I don't really know what else I could do! In 4 of the 6 books I have I will name them for you when I go down stairs all suggest that a community viv is a viable option as long as the species are correct, 2 state in black and white that anoles and green tree frogs are absolutely fine together and should not produce any problems, they also mention that day geckos are usually fine in this grouping also. These books are where I got my ideas from!

The only 2 REAL mistakes I can see from what people have mentioned is putting the rough snake in (which is solely down to the reptile shop) and not having the cage around the light. I have also stated many times since and in my original post that I will not be adding species all at once but over a period of 6 months or more, thus giving me time to learn the rules as I go. I wish people would read more.

Can I ask how many of you have actually tried doing and have experience in maintaining a community viv...?? As there seem to be MANY people that are doing it and have had a lot of good results...!!

I am not being nasty or defensive btw just want to know is all......
