Default Community vivarium

This is my community vivarium that I have just finished, it's 4' x 3' x 2'.
So far the only inhabitants are a pair of green anoles and a pair of USA green tree frogs, should be getting a few long tailed lizards more female green anoles some millipedes, hermit crabs, day geckos, grey and barking tree frogs and maybe some rough green snakes. As far as plants it contains broms, creeping fig, local wild mosses and ferns, pothos, phillodrens, inch plant, a small pitcher plant, begonia, fittonia, alocasia, baby oak seedlings and an orchid that should flower soon. I collected some dead oak leaves and soil from local woods and mixed it with compost so hopefully there should a good amount of inverts in there to break down waste.

If they were from all the same area, it'd be alright, but you'd need a huge set up to accustom EVERY species. For all those species in such a small viv, it won't work mate.

Like others have said, I'd be worried that you're putting far too many animals in such a small viv, and a lot of those animals are from different environments... How much research have you done regarding the different species?

not sure about the other species but rough greens are difficult to keep, most are wild caught stessed like mad and full of parasites, i had 6 rough greens and with 4 weeks all were dead.

you also need a much large viv then that do hold all of those animla comfortable, just think of the community viv the zoos do there easily three times the size of yours and they research for years to find speciea that will co-inhabit well.

its lovely idea and an amasing viv but im sorry i just cant see this ending well

The species weren't all definates guys and have a look through the mixing species thread the species list are based on a viv that worked very well that was made by a guy called arthur cooke. I have heard about rough greens dropping like flies, I would buy and unless they were CB. Don't worry I wouldn't put any in until I was sure that it would work.
Anyway about the viv I added a water heater and a filter for the water section, the heater is upping the humidity really well.

Hi,

Definately do not put day geckos in there with all those other animals. Day gecko's are extremely agressive and territorial and will fight to the death with anoles ect (other animals of a similar size cohabiting the same niche). Also a hungry Tree frog or a green snake would make a snack of a small day gecko. Also, day geckos are very delicate and stress easily and are generally solitary animals, so keeping them with so many other animals will probably kill them through stress. Community vivs seldom work and are best left to people who have many years of knowledge of all the species that are to be introduced together before attempting it. It is your decision however. If you have your heart set on a community viv however, it is best to mix species which occupy different niches eg arboreal animals with terrestrial ones, or diurnal animals with nocturnal ones.
