Default Positioning bulbs

This is going to sound like a really stupid question but I know how important this is so I want to make sure I'm getting it right.

Where should you put a light bulb in a viv housing arboreal geckos. Do they need to go outside of the viv (sat on a mesh top like the top of an exo terra) or is it alright to put them inside the viv as long as they are properly guarded?

The reason I ask is because I can't see that a gecko climbing on to the roof of an exo terra with a lamp sat on top of it is any further away than a gecko climbing onto a bulb guard inside the viv.

I hope I've made the question clear and that you'll be able to help lots.

Thanks,

Cat x

I personally put them on top rather than inside but you're right that there's not really a difference but I prefer it outside so as not to waste space inside and I have tried them inside before and just didn't like the look of it also I found fake plants to fall and be partially inside the guard this was obviously dangerous so was straight out.
hope this helps

Thanks, I hadn't thought about the plants actually - but that's a really good point.

I think I'm going to have to put them inside this viv stack I'm probably going to be building so if they can't go inside I'm going to have to rethink.

But if we're talking wooden vivs oppose to exo terras then inside but I just keep plants away a bit, either that or fix the plants on to the viv walls(not for me though)
