Lightbulb Ideal Gecko Substrate

Ive had an idea in my mind for use as a gecko substrate for a long time now and so while in the pet shop today i decided to go for it and bought the sand paper that usually lines the base of a birds cage. It cost me £1.80 for 6 large pieces and there were equivalent smaller pieces at £0.35 each so its hardly breaking the bank.
It can be easily cut to size and so will fit into any type or size of viv. Any loose sand material is shaken off before and so it reduces if not eliminates the risk of impaction. I thought it would be too rough and file down the claws of my geckos but it is not at all. i would imagine it could be lightly, lightly, lightly dusted with sand to make it that little bit softer if you think its necessary.
If you are anything like me and have a passion agains the un-natural look of tissue as a substrate then i think this is ideal. It is aesthetically pleasing for all and safe for your pets.
I thought i would share this information with you all. Please let me know if you have any feedback or if you decide to use this method...

Regards

Bruce

True True, there are very fine sand papers available. its just getting them in small pieces. the bird cage one comes as a quite big piece so it covers most of the viv.
I know how you feel, i was worried it would be too rough. the only way i can describe it to you is if you go to the pet shop and see for yourself its really not too bad, obviously its up to yourselves tho. Ive got it in my three vivs and its going well up to now, no problems

i have tried all sorts of substrate for my gecko i found he was eating the calci sand so took that out and i also tried paper towels but i dint like the look of it. so i went and got sand paper from the pet shop too and it seems to be fine i paid £2.30 for 8 large sheets. so far so good any probs will let you know.

Topps Tiles (other tile shops are available!) - ask em if you can rummage around in their 'disposal bin' (take some gloves tho or you'll cut your hands to bits !!).

Steam/clean and bleach the 'floor tiles' you manage to procure and cut to size... Job sorted....

(go for the slightly rougher natural style tiles or your leo will be auditioning for skating on ceramic...)

there a loads of types of sand paper i work in a car shop so i now there are bout 50, 000, 000 types!!!! ok maybe not that much but you get my drift. for a fine one so it isnt to ruff you want a 1200 wet and dry its used for smoothing of car paint so it isnt ruff but the colour is definatly desert look material, do to any small diy shop as there more willing to help then the big b&q shops, unless its just a crap b&q store buy mine
