what paint for fake backgrounds

what paint does everyone use for there poly backgrounds and hides? is spray paint ok to use?

also why do i need to coat it in PVA?

I use Acrylic based paints for my backgrounds. I think the pva is to seal the paint in or if your adding sand to your background.

I've used a high VOC (fumes) spray paint and then several layers of Ronseal water based varnish which is a Low VOC thinking it would be ok but 3 weeks after finishing it the smell still seems to be quite strong.

I'm gonna buy a tub of water proof PVA and do a couple of coats which hopfully should seal it up good and proper!

From what I've being adviced in the past its not a problem what you paint with aslong as you seal it in well.
