I want to put some live plants into my viv's for my leo's and was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions as to what I should use. I am on a tight budget really so the cheaper the better.
I was thinking that a few air plants would be good, but they seem quite expensive. I don't know how easy they are to grow myself, and it would obviously take ages too! Any suggestions welcome Sarah xxx |

Air plants are relativly easy to look after, I have no idea if they are sutible for a leo viv. I'd prefer to use air plants vs plants that need soil since you would have to have a good drainage system, where as with air plants they just need a light misting around once 3-4 days. For the plant to get water their leaves must be wet otherwise it won't be able to take in any water, hence why misting is the best way to go about it. You can also buy air plant food which I would reccomend if it wasn't going in a leo viv but it may be harmfull to a leo, so since it isn't needed then you can do without.
They need a moderate amount of light, non direct sunlight is fine for them so if your viv is in a fairly light room then it should be fine. Room temperature is perfect for them and they can deal with higher temperatures easily enough, one problem about keepiong airplants in a viv is that they need quite alot of air in order to dry out after being watered. I'm not too sure on how to establish an airplant that isn't attatched to anything already but I believe gluing it onto the surface will suffice. |
